Rummy is a popular card game that is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The game is typically played by 2 to 6 players and the objective is to form sets and runs of cards and be the first player to get rid of all the cards in their hand.
Here are the basic rules of Rummy:
1.Each player is dealt a certain number of cards, depending on the number of players. For 2 players, each player receives 10 cards. For 3 or 4 players, each player receives 7 cards. For 5 or 6 players, each player receives 6 cards.
2.The remaining cards are placed face down on the table, forming the stockpile. The top card of the stockpile is turned face up and placed next to it, forming the discard pile.
3.On their turn, players can either draw a card from the stockpile or the top card of the discard pile.
4.After drawing a card, the player must discard one card from their hand and place it face up on the discard pile.
5.The objective is to form sets and runs with the cards in hand. A set consists of three or four cards of the same rank, but different suits. A run consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit.
6.Players can also add cards to existing sets or runs on the table, whether played by themselves or other players. However, players cannot take cards from the table to rearrange them in their hand.
7.A player can declare "Rummy" when they have formed sets and runs with all the cards in their hand. They must then place their cards face up on the table for verification by the other players.
8.If a player declares Rummy and their cards are valid, they win the round and score points based on the value of the remaining cards in the other players' hands. If their cards are invalid, they lose the round and score penalty points based on the value of the cards remaining in their own hand.
9.The game continues with subsequent rounds until a predetermined score or number of rounds is reached. The player with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner.

As players collect cards, they can lay down valid sets or runs on the table, which is called melding. Once a player has melded, they can also add cards to existing melds on the table.
7.Joker: In some variations of Rummy, a wild card (often called a joker) is used. The joker can substitute for any other card to complete a set or run. Some games use one or two printed jokers from the deck, while others use specific cards as jokers.
8.Points and scoring: In Rummy, the remaining cards in the hands of the players are counted as penalty points. Face cards carry 10 points each, and numbered cards carry their face value. The objective is to minimize the points left in your hand when someone goes out.
9.Going out: To go out, a player must have all their cards melded into valid sets and runs. Once a player goes out, the round ends, and the remaining players tally up the points in their hands. The player with the lowest score after several rounds is the overall winner.
10.Variations: There are numerous variations of Rummy, including Gin Rummy, Canasta, Indian Rummy, and many more. Each variation has its own specific rules and gameplay mechanics.
